(1) Recommended Operating Systems and DBMS.
The Hippocrate™ solution is developed with the platform-independent capability in mind from day one.This means that you are totally free to choose the operating system and the database management system for the Hippocrate™ server application. In production, we can deploy Hippocrate™ in a heterogenous environment without any interoperativity problems.
The flexible deployment model of Hippocrate™ can help you plan strategic IT hardware infrastructure and software license for your clinics. Hippocrate™ was fully tested in production with Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux.
The table on the right summarizes all the supported platforms of each component in the Hippocrate™ solution.
The Hippocrate™ solution is optimized to be deployed in LAN with clustered servers. The following description will give you more details about all available deployment models for your clinics.
Small scale deployment model
In this model, the server will host both Hippocrate server application and the DBMS. This server can serve up to 30 workstations in the same LAN.
This model is suitable for small clinics with the ability to serve 20 patients concurrently. The following table recommends the system requirements for the deployment:
SERVER (1 machine) | ||
Hardware | OS | DBMS |
WORKSTATION (from 20 to 30 machines)
Hardware | OS | Others |
Medium scale deployment model
With the need to serve up to 40 patients concurrently and the number of workstation up to 60 machines, you should deploy this model.
In this deployment model, the number of server is doubled and the DBMS is separated on another machine. The following table recommends the system requirements for the deployment:
SERVER (3 machines) | ||
Hardware | OS | DBMS |
WORKSTATION (from 50 to 60 machines)
Hardware | OS | Others |
Large scale deployment model
In this model, Hippocrate is deployed with load-balancing and fault-tolerant ability to serve a large number of workstations. The DBMS servers are also clustered to serve high frequency data access. This deployment model can also include a VPN solution to support remote workstations over the Internet.
This deployment model is suitable for clinics with ability to serve a large number of patients at the same time or clinics with more than one branch. The following table recommends the system requirements for the deployment:
SERVER (more than 5 machines)
Hardware | OS | DBMS |
WORKSTATION (more than 60 machines)
Hardware | OS | Others |
This deployment model can scale up easily depending on the need of clinics, by adding more machine for Hippocrate server application or the clustered DBMS.
